Back to Galilee
After spending time in Jerusalem, the disciples returned to Galilee. We find them by the shoreline, almost in suspended animation. They have the air of a group of men who are not sure what to do. They have not the slightest clue as to what will happen next. They are marking time, waiting for something to happen. So, they do what they know best, they go fishing. After a fruitless night of fishing, Jesus shows up. Perhaps they have a sense of Déjà vu, as they pull in a net full of fish. This was followed by a memorable breakfast on the beach. What’s going on here? And why does John include this? Jesus was telling them, ‘I will care for you. I will look after you. I will abundantly supply all your needs.’ And he has the same message for us. Like the disciples, we may want to return to our own agendas when we get discouraged in our walk with Jesus. But then Jesus shows up again, on the shore of our lives to extend forgiveness and to draw us back to those moments when He first called us.
